Please Note:  ALCS cannot control the deadlines, details, criteria, etc. for any scholarship that we do not handle in house. Dates can change and criteria may or may not change from year to year. 

Many scholarships require a school official signature or transcript, letters of recommendation, and/or other components that involve teachers, counselors and possibly the principal.  Therefore, we have established internal deadlines in order to handle the applications in a timely way.  If students do not turn applications in by the internal deadline, we cannot guarantee the applications will get sent out based on the scholarship deadline from the company or agency.  Many of the scholarships listed below are one’s that we see year to year, but may not have gotten updated applications with new deadlines for 2013. We have posted these for your information. If you see a deadline in red, that means it has been updated and will also read Actual Deadline.  Mary Gergel, Guidance Secretary, can assist you with locating the applications in our office.
 
 
Please note: For students who are dependents of someone who served in the US military there are several other scholarships that apply to you, please check in the guidance office for more information.

 

 Allegany-Limestone Central School Teachers Association Scholarship in memory of Linda M. Abrams

 To Allegany-Limestone seniors who are entering some form of two or four year college study. Application is available in the guidance office after Spring break. This scholarship is typically due to be returned by the student in May.

 Actual Deadline Allegany-Limestone Teachers’ Association

 This scholarship is awarded to an Allegany-Limestone senior who provides evidence of acceptance into a college level education related program with freshman status, completes the scholarship application and a high school transcript plus one letter of recommendation from any high school teacher. This letter should include an assessment of your academic ability as well as your character. A resume is highly recommended but not required. Applications are available and due in Guidance on or before May 31st.  There will be no exceptions to this deadline.

 

Allegany-American Legion Memorial Awards

Applications available at the Library, Town Hall, Legion 

 This scholarship requires the completion of the application as well as a letter explaining why the candidate qualifies for the scholarship. This letter should include school and community involvement and participation in any of the American legion program of other activities that pertain to Americanism and Citizenship. A high school transcript is also required. Applicants must be accepted at one or more recognized institutions of higher learning, including full time vocational schools (minimum one year). These applications are received in guidance after Spring break and are due around the first week in May.

 

 

 


 


 Actual Deadline Gregory Hollamby Memorial Scholarship

Must be attending a post-secondary institution, Lettered in one or more varsity sports, exemplified hard work, helping others, kindness, and leading by example. Applications are available in the Guidance and due May 22nd

 


 


 Actual Deadline Cattaraugus County Sheriff Employees Benevolent Association
This scholarship is available to any student planning on entering the criminal justice or police science field. This does not apply, however, to students planning to enter into the legal profession.  Candidates must be a resident of Cattaraugus County.  Applications availabel and due in Guidance May 23rd
 
 
 

 

Staff Sergeant Shawn Michael Clemens Memorial Scholarship

 This scholarship is open to Allegany-Limestone Central students who have attended Allegany-Limestone for four years, must have earned two varsity letters, and must have demonstrated a love of family and country in school and in extracurricular activities. The Clemens scholarship requires two letters of recommendation. This scholarship is due in May.

 


 

 

 


 

 

Hassett, Captain Timothy

Memorial Scholarship

 This application is for any Cattaraugus County High School Senior advancing to Higher Education for the purpose of a career in Law Enforcement. More information TBA.

 


 
 
Actual Deadline Sheriff Dennis B. John 2013 Memorial Scholarship
Available to a graduating senior in Cattaraugus County who is seriously planning to pursue a career in the criminal justice /law enforcement field who exhibits a genuine sense of moral obligation with regards to community service.  Applications available and due in Guidance by May 23rd.

 

 Sons of the American Legion Scholarship 
Applications available at the Library, Town Hall, Legion

 Student must file an application, a financial statement and a letter explaining why he or she qualifies for this scholarship. School involvement and community involvement are also questions included in this application and a grade transcript is required to complete the application. Typically the completed applications are due in May.

 

Actual Deadline Virginia E. Stauffer Memorial Scholarship

 This is a need based scholarship. The high school is allowed to send in five of the applications turned in. This determination is made by the scholarship committee.  Applications available and due in Guidance on May 22nd

 

Richard Straub Memorial Scholarship

(sponsored by the Allegany American Legion)

Applications available at the Library, Town Hall, Legion 

 This scholarship is based on financial need. Students must show an attempt to help towards their college tuition by providing their work record. The Straub scholarship is also based on social, political, religious or athletic groups or programs that students belong to as well as their grade transcript. Any participation in American Legion programs (i. e. Boys State, Girls State, baseball, oratorical contest) are also taken into consideration. This scholarship is typically due in May.

 

 

  Actual Due Date  Zwald Memorial Spanish Language Award Application

This award is given in memory of Mr. James Zwald, teacher of Spanish at Allegany-Limestone Central School 1968-2000. To qualify, a student must:

1)      Have successfully completed four (4) units of credit in Spanish, and

2)      Have successfully completed the course of study and met all requirements for a diploma at ALCS and in NYS, and

3)      Have a love for the study of Spanish language, culture and customs, as the late James Zwald, and

4)      Submit an essay demonstrating the qualifications to satisfy the above qualifications.

Please complete this application and forward it to the guidance Office by May 20th, 2013. Mr. Fancher, a member of the Zwald committee will pick up the applications.

 
  

 

Students receive information about scholarships through updated newsletters posted in the Guidance office, senior classroom announcements from Mrs. Gregory, direct emails, morning announcements, as well as this site. Monthly updated scholarship newsletters begin early spring.
