Kindergarten Curriculum

Dear Families,

Here are some great ways to help reinforce our Kindergarten skills at home:

Reading

**Sight Word Practice (please see sight word section of webpage for specific ideas)

**Reading and/or listening to stories and answering 'wh' questions about the story (ie: Who were the characters?  Where was the setting?  What was the problem?  How did they solve the problem?)

**Children should answer questions in COMPLETE sentences. (ie: Parent: "Who is the main character?" Child: "The main character is....")

** Practicing decoding words with CVC patterns (ie: cat), CCVC patterns (ie: stop), CVCC patterns (ie: past) and also words with digraphs (ie: sh, ch, th,)

**Practice writing simple sentences.  Don't forget to start with a capital letter, put finger spaces in between words and end with punctuation.

Math:

**Practicing composition and decomposition of numbers 0-10.   In other words, practice number bonds from 0-10--and writing addition and subtraction equations.0-20

**Counting sets of objects from 0-20 and writing the number for the set.

**Sequence and write numbers 0-20.

**Count aloud by 1's and 10's to 100.

**Identify 'teen numbers' as a group of 'one ten' and so many ones. (ie: looking at 14 and saying "One ten and four ones")  Additionally, being able to look at a group of objects with tens/ones and counting tens/ones to identify a number.

**Practice addition and subtraction facts from 0-5;  children need to be FLUENT with these (identify within 3 seconds) by June!
