    Dunkirk Lighthouse

Fun Fact:  The Fresnel lens, designed by French physicist Augustin-Jean Fresnel, allowed lighthouses to magnify, using internal reflection, their beacons without adding too much mass.  Located in Dunkirk, NY and built in 1827, this is the Dunkirk Lighthouse.  The light in the tower is a third-order Fresnel lens and is still in the tower today. This special lens helps the light reach almost 20 miles and is worth over $1.5 million. The tower stands 61 feet tall and is made from limestone.  Fresnel's name is now engraved on the Eiffel Tower.

These are my dogs, Dunkirk and Chadwick.  Dunkirk is a German Shorthaired Pointer and Chadwick is a Dalmatian.  Chadwick is a certified Canine Good Citizen, which allows him to come to school!  Dunkirk is still working on his certificate.  You will be hearing a lot about them throughout the year!  Both dogs are named after the Dunkirk lighthouse pictured above.  Chadwick Bay is the bay where the lighthouse resides and Dunkirk Harbor is in Chadwick Bay.
