Dear Families,
I am very excited about being your child’s third grade teacher and am looking forward to a year of learning and growing together!
I would like to let you know a little bit about me so that we can become better acquainted. I live in Allegany with my husband, Scott. We have 4 children: Hillary, an elementary teacher in Chevy Chase, MD, John, a CPA in Rochester, NY, Katherine, a University of Delaware grad living in Chicago, and Bradley, who is currently enrolled in the MBA program at St. Bonaventure University. This is going to be an exciting year for me personally, as our son, John, and his wife are expecting our first grandchildren in January. I use the plural form because they are having twins! I can't wait! I also have a golden doodle named Bogart. He is my walking buddy!
I originally obtained a degree in accounting as well as an MBA from St. Bonaventure University. After working in the business world for several years, I stayed home to be a full-time mom to our children. When our youngest entered kindergarten I started substituting at ALCS and fell in love with the teaching profession. Therefore, I decided to return to school and obtained my New York State Teacher Certification in Childhood Education, Grades 1-6. This is my fourteenth year teaching 3rd grade at ALCS.
My philosophy on education is that teachers don't just teach curriculum but also how to be a responsible and compassionate individual. I work hard to help all my students be successful and expect each and every one of my students to work hard as well. Your support is also integral to your child’s success. Our classroom is a community where everyone should feel respected, safe, and supported by their teacher and their peers. I believe that with good communication and cooperation we can work together to make this a great year for all of us! Please do not hesitate to contact me with any concerns you may have by e-mail (mreed@alcsny.org), with Class Dojo, with notes in your child's agenda, or by phone at school, 375-6600, ext. 4191. I will try to get back to you as soon as I can. My top priority is to work with you and your child to ensure his or her success in school this year.
I hope you find my teacher webpage a helpful tool and reference it frequently throughout the school year! Thanks in advance for your support!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Mary Jo Reed
