Dear Allegany-Limestone Families,
As we continue to grieve and process the heinous shootings in Buffalo that were motivated by hate; our hearts break, once again, after yet another unthinkable tragedy occurred a couple days ago in Uvalde,Texas. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the families of those who lost children and loved ones.
As always, our top priority is the safety of our students and all members of the ALCS community. This is a responsibility we take very seriously. We understand these events cause tremendous stress and worry - we are here to support any student or adult who may be in need. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher, counselor, or school. It’s important for you to know that help is always available through your schools.
The tragedy that took place a couple days ago and the attack 12 days ago in Buffalo are not acceptable. This is not the world we want for our children. All children should feel safe when coming to school each and every day. Our longstanding and ongoing commitment to safety includes a close partnership with the local Law Enforcement Departments, including our great school resource officers. Additionally, we continue to practice, evolve, reinforce, and monitor our school safety protocols and procedures through active district-wide and building level committees, building level drills, and ongoing annual staff training.
As a district we will continue to work to bring people together and ensure that all students and families have a voice and feel welcomed and safe. I ask for your continued partnership as we work together, as a community, to ensure the safety of our children.
In the coming days and weeks when we are focused on our everyday lives, I ask that we all take a moment and keep in our thoughts and prayers the victims and their families in Buffalo and in Uvalde, Texas.
